Thriller Research- Conventions of Thriller sound

  • Tense music is used
  • When the main character is in a life threatening situation the music starts slow and then gradually builds up to make the audience on the edge on their seats and it shows the danger getting greater
  • Low base instruments are normally used to create tension
  • Music is normally in a minor scale
  • It's nervracking and makes the audience feel anxious
  • Non-digetic music is used this creates suspence
  • Digetic sound is used to make the film look more realistic
  • The music creates the mood in the thriller
  • The music can show the audience the difference between the victums and the villians
  • It shows characters personalities, for example if it was about a mental person, when we see him on screen the music will go all unusual to show his insane personality
